ACR Journals Peer Review Mentoring Program

For most scholarly scientific journals, it is challenging to identify willing and well-qualified manuscript reviewers. The goal of the Rheum With a (re)View program is to ensure we have a strong pipeline of reviewers for the ACR journals for the future.
The American College of Rheumatology Committee on Journal Publications launched Rheum With a (re)View in 2022, pairing early career investigators (mentees) with senior investigators (mentors) to facilitate training in effective journal peer review. ACR/ARP members who have completed training within the last 10 years and have research experience are encouraged to apply.
About the Mentoring Program
Each mentor will have a group of one to three mentees who will complete a brief online self-study program and then begin their “live” (but virtual) training. Throughout the 1-year program, the mentor will share at least three articles they have been invited to review with mentees. The mentees will complete a review of the same articles, either individually or as a group, and will receive mentor feedback. At the end of the program, with mentor discretion, the mentee will receive a Certificate of Completion and will be added to the reviewer rosters of our three peer-reviewed journals: Arthritis & Rheumatology, Arthritis Care & Research, and ACR Open Rheumatology.
Upcoming Mentoring Class
The 2025–2026 application is closed. The 2026–2027 application will open January 2026.
ACR/ARP members who have completed training within the past 10 years and have research experience are encouraged to apply.
